Heathmont College seeks to cater for the individual learning needs of each student.  To this end the Excel Program is designed to challenge all students entering secondary education at Heathmont College.  The Excel program not only aims to develop each student’s academic ability but also their interpersonal and leadership skills. This program is offered from Years 7-10.

The program offers support and extension work in the areas of Mathematics and English.  Based on the testing of students and information from primary schools, students are placed into flexible classes that enable teachers to better cater for individual differences.

High achieving students will be encouraged to develop their creative thinking, research and problem solving skills which will provide an excellent foundation for VCE years and beyond.  These students follow the same core curriculum as other students in their year level, but the work in the area of Mathematics and/or English is designed to further enhance, challenge and extend student abilities.

Heathmont’s recent outstanding academic outcomes are reflected in the excellent results this program delivers.

This program’s high achiever’s class is limited to 25 students. Those wishing to be considered will be required to apply in writing and sit the academic testing alongside all other prospective Year 7 students. These results along with students who wish to be considered for this program will be asked to provide the College with copies of their reports and Naplan results. An interview may be required for entry into the high achiever’s class.

Students enrolling at other year levels will have an opportunity to express interest in the program during their enrolment interview.

The college reviews the membership of each class at the end of each semester to ensure that all students are achieving to the best of their abilities.
