Learning Circles
Heathmont College has a long tradition of providing an excellent program for our students, as well as a fully planned support structure. In Years 7 and 8, students will be in a Home Group which will a part of a ‘Learning Circle’. Each Learning Circle has an allocated Coordinator who is responsible for the general administrative procedures required by the College, as well as Pastoral Care.
We welcome young “graduated sixth graders” through our integrated Transition Program and support them with a variety of pastoral care initiatives including Peer Support and Personal Development all within our Learning Circle model. There is a strong emphasis on the individual rather than the group with teaching strategies being shared amongst teachers within the circle. Small committed teams of teachers are allocated to staff rooms with those from the same circle to enable a more effective team approach to the learning and wellbeing of students. From the beginning our emphasis is on increasing self-esteem through having a deep understanding of the personal and learning characteristics of each student.
Within our Middle School Team, there are four Learning Cirlces. Below are the Coordinators who oversee each Circle.
Marquita Corr – A & B Learning Circle
Haroula Christodoulou – C & D Learning Circle
Matthew Canterford – E, F & G Learning Circle
George Adamakis – E, F & G Learning Circle
All Years 7 and 8 students will take studies across eight Key Learning Areas. These areas are: English, Mathematics, Humanities, Science, the Arts, Languages other than English (LOTE), Health and Physical Education and Technology. In addition, The College currently operates a two-week 40 period cycle for its timetable, with four 75 minute periods per day.
