Positive Education Heathmont College is committed to the exploration and implementation of Positive Education Principles both within and outside the classroom. This implementation is based on the PERMA model of wellbeing as introduced by the founder of Positive Psychology, Martin Seligman. The PERMA model suggests that wellbeing is improved through the following pillars: • (P) Positive Emotion • (E) Engagement • (R) Positive Relationships • (M) Meaning • (A) Accomplishment The goal of this program is for students and staff at Heathmont College to become better able to reflect on and improve their wellbeing as a lifelong skill. Students will be explicitly taught skills and knowledge according to this model within their Positive Education classes, occurring on a fortnightly basis. Furthermore, staff will encourage students to carry these skills beyond the classroom to other areas of their life.
