St John’s Ambulance – Party Ready (Year 9s)

• St johns Ambulance are excited to run the Party Ready Program for Year 9 students.
• Party Ready equips young people with the practical skills and knowledge to help a friend who may be injured, unwell, or in distress. Through interactive activities and hands-on learning, students will gain confidence in responding to a range of situations and know when and how to seek additional support.

Topics covered include:
Alcohol, drug and mental health trends for young people
Effects of alcohol and other drugs on the body
Standard drink information
Harm minimisation strategies and Naloxone awareness
Mental health crisis response and help-seeking skills 
Physical first aid and the DRSABCD action plan
Risk scenarios and decision-making activities
Recovery position and CPR practical sessions
 Defibrillator demonstration
Support services and resources for young people

• This engaging program supports students to develop important life skills, make informed decisions, and contribute to the health, safety and wellbeing of their peers and community.
• We look forward to helping our Year 9 students become Party Ready!

 
Curriculum

• Alcohol and other drugs (AD): supporting students to make healthier and safer choices in relation to drugs and alcohol by understanding the bodily effects of substance use, environmental and other risk factors information regarding informed decisions and harm minimisation techniques.
• Mental health and wellbeing (MH): teaching students resilience skills, coping strategies and behaviours to manage mental health crises as well as exploring contextual factors that influence mental health and wellbeing, and how those factors interact with physical health
• Safety (S): encouraging strategies to maximise person safety and help others in a range of settings and scenarios, including uncomfortable or unsafe situations that require first aid and emergency care
