Facilitators from YSAS (Youth Support and Advocacy Service) in Ringwood will be visiting our College to provide Alcohol and Other Drug School Presentations.

About the Presentation
The YSAS sessions aim to educate and empower young people by providing clear, age-appropriate information on:

Why young people may experiment with substances
How different drugs affect the brain and body
Risks and potential short- and long-term consequences
Practical harm-minimisation strategies
Skills for managing peer pressure and making informed decisions

All content is delivered in a judgement-free, supportive environment designed to foster awareness, resilience, and wellbeing.

YSAS run each presentation with one class at a time to support engagement, personalised interaction, and meaningful Q&A.

The session includes:
Interactive Presentation
Covers harm minimisation, party safety, how substances work in the body, healthy relationships with AOD, and the legal aspects of alcohol consumption.
Practical Activities & Games
Students participate in hands-on activities, including the use of alcohol and cannabis goggles, to understand how substances affect spatial awareness and decision-making. Activities are facilitated in a way that encourages open conversation, questions, and reflection.

The team from YSAS, and staff from the College are very mindful of students’ diverse needs, including religious considerations, previous negative AOD – related experiences, and the needs of neurodivergent young people who may benefit from preparation or adjustments.
If any student prefers not to take part in an activity, we will respect their choice and will support them to engage in alternative self-care.
