Heathmont College Walk-a-thon and Colour Run – Colour the Conversation

Heathmont College will run a Walk-a-thon and Colour Run on the last day of Term 3. The Colour the Conversation Walkathon Fundraiser is in support of implementing mental health programs at Heathmont College in 2026, facilitated by the organisation Speak and Share.

Mental health among young people is a critical issue. Research shows that half of all mental health conditions begin by age 14, yet young people are among the least likely to seek help. The current climate has only increased the need to reconnect, rebuild a positive wellbeing culture, and encourage open dialogue around mental health.

Speak and Share is a youth-focused organisation delivering meaningful and engaging mental health education to students aged 14–19. Their People Before Students program, developed by qualified educators and mental health professionals, aims to:

  • Normalise conversations around mental health

  • Encourage vulnerability and peer support

  • Strengthen school wellbeing culture

  • Promote stronger connections between students, families, and staff

Participation in this event will help fund the subsidisation of mental health incursions for students in Years 8 to 12 in 2026. The event cost includes entry to both the Walk-a-thon and Colour Run, as well as a donation to help reduce the cost of these programs. Participants will need to supply their own white T-shirt.

The event will be held during Period 4 and is expected to finish at approximately 2:00 pm.

An out-of-uniform day will also take place on the same day, with students asked to contribute a gold coin donation, which will be collected during Period 1.

A sausage sizzle will be available, with sausages in bread for $2.50 each.

Additionally, a raffle will be drawn on the day. Tickets will be sold throughout Term 3 for $1 each, with the prize being a merchandise pack featuring items from Speak and Share’s clothing label.

Important Information – Colour Run and Walk-a-thon:

Please note that the dye used in the Colour Explosion Fun Run will stain clothing. It is strongly recommended that students wear old shorts and shoes that they don’t mind getting stained.

Acknowledgement of Country

Heathmont College acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the Lands that we are privileged to walk upon and learn on each day, which is the land of the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation.  We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging, who are our knowledge holders, story keepers and teachers. We thank them for looking after the land, sky and waterways, so we all can enjoy them, and so too can the generations to come. We recognise the special contributions of First Nations peoples and cultures, that enrich and shape the cultural identity of this nation.
