Students will meet at Heathmont Station at 8:20am and will be taking the 8:51am train to Parliament or Flinders Street Station (depending on where their group is starting first). Students will need to bring their own Myki card to be able to attend the excursion. Students will be departing from Flinders Street Station on the 2:12pm train. Students will be dismissed from Ringwood Station at 3:01pm. Students will be able to leave the train at Ringwood Station or continue along the line.

On this excursion, Year 7 students will gain valuable knowledge and hands on experiences as part of our study of Ancient Australia. They will visit the Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre at the Melbourne Museum and go on a walking tour with the Koorie Heritage Trust as part of the Birrarung Wilam (River Camp) Walk.

Students will be given opportunity in between both activities to have their lunch. It is recommended that students bring a small bag for their lunch and a drink bottle as they will be doing a lot of walking during the day.

At the museum, they will learn about stories of survival against the odds and celebrate Indigenous Australian’s vibrant cultures through performances, storytelling and artwork. On the walking tour, students will learn about the history of the Birrarung and the Aboriginal Peoples of the Kulin Nation. The Koorie Heritage Trust provide a knowledgeable Cultural Experience Guide, who helps students discover how Melbourne’s land has changed over time and the significance of the Birrarung Wilam to the local Kulin peoples. This experience will provide a deeper and more meaningful understanding of this important gathering place for the Kulin Nation, which is now also one of Melbourne’s most popular meeting hubs in the heart of the city.
