I CAN Network partners with school leadership teams to develop inclusive school cultures. I CAN directly empowers Neurodivergent students with optimism, belonging, self-acceptance, pride and confidence. Students are invited to take up this opportunity to work with a mentor and build skills for communicating with others. This program offers a safe space where young people develop self-acceptance, belonging, optimism and confidence. It is also a great way to build and strengthen new friendships at Heathmont! The two stages of student progression are as follows: STAGE ONE – empowers Neurodivergent students with the basic outcome of the I CAN program: a positive neurodivergent identity. STAGE TWO – develops Neurodivergent students who are wanting to progress in the program and achieve outcomes around leadership and self-advocacy. Students are given opportunities to run activities during the session to help foster self-belief and empowerment. |
Participants will attend a one-hour session each from Week 3 until the end of term (8 sessions in total). The program will run at 10am on Wednesdays, and students will be exempt from their scheduled class to attend the program. |
