Parent/Teacher Interviews @ Heathmont College
Apr 2 all-day

On Wednesday the April 2nd, families are invited to connect with staff to reflect on the progress across term 1. Parent Teacher Interviews (PTIs) are great way to ensure students are able to reflect on the great things they have done across the year to date and explore some challenges in the classroom.

For younger students, this conference offers the opportunity to explore what the students are learning in class, the behavior they are exhibiting in the classroom space and set goals for growth.

Within the traditional VCE space, it is vital that students feel supported by people around them and PTIs create an opportunity for the school to assist in the conversation as to how families can support them through a challenging education period. Furthermore, this extends to discussions around the supports also available at school, outside of the classroom.

As staff, we understand that the work students are completing in subjects may not be a strength to many (or in many cases, extremely foreign to parents and guardians). As supports for these young people, the focus of PTIs can look at how to support your young people at home, but helping managing stress and wellbeing outside of the school gates. Furthermore, it can be extremely beneficial to explore how to keep young people accountable as they work through the education journey, as well as recognize when students are being too hard on themselves.

To book a Parent Teacher Interview, use the conferences feature in Compass to book either a face to face meeting, or dial in virtually via the platform, WebEx. These conferences will open shortly (3PM today), and you will be informed via a Compass notification.

At Heathmont College, we strongly encourage families to engage in the PTI process. Should you have any queries or concerns, please contact your child’s Year Level Coordinator.

(Free Dress Day) Hoodie Up for Autism @ Heathmont College
Apr 4 all-day

This Friday, the 4th of April we will be celebrating World Autism Awareness Day (2/4) by wearing a Hoodie Up for Autism in free dress! We will be collecting a $2 gold coin donation in the morning, and all proceeds will go to Amaze.

Some Autistic people may sometimes experience sensory overload by the environment around them. Wearing a hoodie is an easy self-regulation tool to reduce sensory input and support feeling calm.

The 2025 Amaze campaign focuses on embracing and uplifting the positive aspects of Autistic identity, empowering individuals to fully appreciate and take pride in their experiences. It challenges limiting stereotypes and highlights the incredible skills, perspectives, and joys that come with being Autistic. The campaign encourages everyone to reflect on their own positive Autistic identity, while fostering a community that supports and creates space for Autistic people to confidently be their true selves.

Looking forward to celebrating with you!

Students will take part in a swim assessment to gauge their swimming ability for future water activities in 9LiFE – this is a requirement by the Department of Education and must be completed prior to any swimming activities (such as surfing etc). This session will include access to the dive pool for the swim tests and access to the diving boards afterwards.

Students will be meeting at Heathmont College for regular P1 and P2 and we will walk to AquaNation as a group at the beginning of P3. Students will be dismissed from Aqua Nation at 2.30pm. Students are asked to bring their bathers, a towel, water bottle, snacks and lunch for the day. Students will have the opportunity to purchase food at the Aqua Nation cafe if they wish.
