Students will take part in a swim assessment to gauge their swimming ability for future water activities in 9LiFE – this is a requirement by the Department of Education and must be completed prior to any swimming activities (such as surfing etc). This session will include access to the dive pool for the swim tests and access to the diving boards afterwards.
Students will be meeting at Heathmont College for regular P1 and P2 and we will walk to AquaNation as a group at the beginning of P3. Students will be dismissed from Aqua Nation at 2.30pm. Students are asked to bring their bathers, a towel, water bottle, snacks and lunch for the day. Students will have the opportunity to purchase food at the Aqua Nation cafe if they wish.
25 students from the Year 10 elective ‘Crime and Politics’ will visit the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court and Maroondah Council to assist in their learning about the Victorian legal system and government. Students will observe court proceedings and hear from and speak with senior officials, the Mayor and/or Councillors from the City of Maroondah.
Students will meet teachers at Ringwood Train Station at 8:50am to catch the 9:09am train to Flagstaff Station and then walk 5 minutes to the Magistrates Court. Staff will assist students to pass through the court security (approx. 10am) and will then escort students into various courts (avoiding those dealing with family violence or sexual assault matters) to view proceedings in small groups for an hour. All staff and students will leave Melbourne Magistrates court at approximately 11:15am and walk back to Flagstaff Station to catch the 11:30am train to Ringwood station. Arriving at approximately 12:16pm staff will escort students across Maroondah Highway to Ringwood Town Square. Students will have a lunch break at Eastland, from 12:15-1:15pm (students will be provided with a school mobile phone number to contact teachers if required). Students will meet teachers back at Realm in Ringwood Town Square to hear from Maroondah City Council representatives and have a tour of Council offices and services. Students will be dismissed from Realm at 3:00pm.
Please note: one of our goals for this subject is from the School Wide Positive Behaviour matrix: “Abiding by community rules and expectations”. Therefore we will be explicitly learning about the following expectations in our classroom before the excursion.
Public transport behaviour expectations:
- Wait calmly for instructions from staff
- Move around mindfully of other patrons
- Travel with a valid Myki
- Wait until people disembarking have exited before entering
- Travel together
- Give up your seat to any other passenger who might need it
- Behave respectfully whilst on transport and moving to and from the venues
Please note the required behaviour:
- Visitors are expected to conduct themselves in an orderly and respectful manner at all times (no talking during court proceedings)
- Observing students should leave adequate seating for parties to the proceedings adn for other members of the public
- Court staff have the right to ask anyone to elave the premises if they are not following expected behaviours
- When entering and exiting a courtroom, it is customary to pause briefly at the door and bow your head towards the Coat of Arms located behind the magistrate
The following are not permitted in either venue:
- smoking, vaping, eating and chewing gum
- video or other cameras, tape recorders or two-way radios
- the use of mobile devices including phones unless directed to by staff for learning tasks
Ringwood RSL Sub Branch has extended the invitation to representatives of Heathmont College student leadership team to participate in the Annual ANZAC march on 25th March 2025.
All students are invited/ welcome to attend, however this in not compulsory. All student leaders are encouraged to attend, however not expected.
Students are to wear school uniform and comfortable shoes. Students to meet at 5:20am at the Memorial Clock Tower, for the Dawn Service to commence at 5.30am.
School Captains and Prefects will be invited to a breakfast with Ms Sandford, Mrs Dykman and Ms Constance afterward at Eastland. Students will be dismissed after the ANZAC service, unless a part of the senior student leadership team attending breakfast.
On Monday 28 April, we will be holding a whole school assembly to recognise the College captains and leaders for 2025. Your child will be announced at the assembly, and we would like to welcome you to attend. |

Students studying VCE Media this year will have the opportunity to view the work and creative process of 2023’s top VCE students. Students will meet at Heathmont Station at 8:00AM ready to catch the 8:24AM train to Flinders Street Station. Media students will then go to ACME to attend the 9:30 session of Top Screens, while the Art and VIsCom students attend the gallery and other Art exhibits. At approx. 11:00AM, all students will meet up again at Federation Square and walk to the Melbourne Museumto attend the Top Designs exhibit. (students will have an opportunity to get lunch along the way). Students will then be dismissed from Parliament Station at approx. 2:30pm |

The annual College Cross Country is an important day on the Heathmont College calendar. |
Students will complete classes until lunchtime followed by the College Cross Country in the afternoon. This is a whole school event and all students are expected to participate as a runner or walker. Students that do not have parental consent to leave the school grounds will still participate in the event but will participate in a modified activity within the school grounds. There is no cost associated with this event. |

Students will take part in a Species Interactions in the Intertidal Ecosystem at Rickett’s point combined with the Moysey walk and lunch at Banksia Reserve |
Additional event details: Students will travel by bus to Rickett’s Point Marine Sanctuary and participate in a 2 hour educational presentation Species Interactions in the Intertidal Ecosystem. Students will not be swimming however will be near water. Appropriate footwear is recommended. Bathers are not required. Students will then do a 30 min walk to Moysey Garden traveling along the Moysey Walk, from here we will continue for a 20 min walk onto Banksia Reserve for lunch and some free time. Students will travel by bus back to Heathmont College arriving approximately 2.50pm Students are advised to bring lunch and drinks especially water as there is no guarantee that food facilities will be available on the day. Students will attend the Shrine of Remembrance and participate in a program called ‘ANZAC and After’. In this special program that explores the ANZAC story and spirit, students will learn about life at the Front for Australian soldiers and nurses during the First World War. Education staff and volunteers will use real and replica objects from the era to tell stories of Victorian service and sacrifice. Following this students will have the opportunity to see additional aspects of the Shrine of Remembrance both inside and outside. After our time at the Shrine of Remembrance, students will have some time in and around Melbourne Central to explore and enjoy time in small groups. |
Students will need their own Myki card to catch the train. Students MUST travel tap on and students seen fare evading will likely be banned from future city excursions. Students are encouraged to bring their own food for this excursion as food/drink options will be limited. Students will be dismissed when the train arrives at Ringwood Station (scheduled to arrive at 3:01pm). |
