The Victorian Curriculum specifies that students in Year 9 must participate in fieldwork as part of the area of study ‘Biomes and Food Security’ for the curriculum area of Geography. All Year 9 students will participate in a compulsory fieldtrip to the Yarra Valley ECOSS in Wesburn and Rainforest Gallery walk in Warburton for a day of data collection, observations, learning and fun. Students will undertake structured, hands-on activities about sustainable food production with an education officer at ECOSS and collect geographical data about the biome of rainforests with Heathmont College staff at Rainforest Gallery. Travel will be by hired coach and students will be required to wear PE uniform and runners. Please note, if it’s due to rain on the day students will also need to bring a raincoat and/or umbrella. Students must also bring with them:
We will be leaving promptly from Heathmont College at 9am and will return by 3pm. Students will use the data they collect on the day to complete their CAT for this unit – a fieldwork report. A copy of the Fieldwork Booklet including the behavioural expectations on the day will be forwarded to parents closer to the date. We look forward to this being an interesting and enjoyable day of learning in the great outdoors! |
During their stay, students will live and work in a very close environment with up to 45 of their peers. There are challenges and lessons on human relationships that will arise from this lifestyle. Great friendships are made, tolerance is learned and teamwork and leadership is created. It will be rare to find a student who will not be proud of his or her involvement or to find an ex-student who does not readily identify with the Don Valley Campus and the School for Student Leadership.
